During our camping trip outside Victoria, we took a little detour and visited the Historic Kinsol Trestle. Per the CVRD fact sheet: “the Kinsol Trestle is one of the tallest free-standing and most spectacular timber rail trestle structures in the world. At 614 feet in length and
standing 145 feet above the salmon bearing Koksilah River, the Kinsol is an incredible structure worth preserving.”
We arrived on a sunny afternoon, with the summer sun beating down on us. The gravel trail to the trestle was quite exposed to the sun, and it was fairly featureless. The trail was stroller and bike friendly.
Thankfully it only took a little over 1km to reach the trestle. With Junior on the bike, we kept a good pace and got there before we overheated.
It was a cool experience to visit the beautiful trestle and the structure sure presents some unique photo opportunities. However, being 45 min drive away, it’s quite a long trek to get here as an outing from Victoria unless you are a history or architecture buff.
